Task 10 - Evaluation

For this task I shall go through my work for Unit 67 and evaluate what I have completed.

For the first task, I had to create a schedule for my animation workflow. I did this by creating a burndown chart which would show the time period I plan to complete my work in and my overall goals for this unit. I also accompanied my burndown chart with a paragraph explaining my reasons for doing one.

For the second task, I researched the DADA art movement of which my Puppet would be based upon. I looked into the origins of DADA and the impact it has had on modern art. I also looked into the history of one of DADA's most prominent members, Sophie Taeuber-Arp. By completing this task, I got a feel of how my puppet should look and how DADA has affected contemporary art. I felt I completed this task to a good standard  and I felt I covered all necessary points. I also linked my own work to the research by mentioning that my own puppet is based of Sophie's and Hugo's work.

For the third task, I researched animations history and role within the games industry and I also brain stormed ideas for my extra animation work. I looked into the history of animation in gaming and used the jumping animation as an example of animations crucial role within the industry and I explained animations importance using jumping as an example. I felt I explored all points needed and that my example was relevant to the aim of the task.

For Task 4, I showed my puppets building process. I showed the DADA puppet I would be recreating and the process of me building it in Blender. In addition to that, I showed the build process of my extra animation work, where I started building a space station with space ships surrounding it. I also showed my texture creation process. I covered all aspects of the build process, which I feel followed the construction of my puppet all the way to its completion.

For the fifth task, I showed my puppets rigging and skinning process. I began by showing the rigging of my puppet, where I added in bone armature's, in order to give my puppet a skeleton. By doing so, my puppets limbs and body can be moved allowing for the animation process to go ahead. Upon completing the rigging, I began skinning my puppet, which allows for the bone armatures to be allocated to the correct parts of the puppet. I showed all aspects of the rigging and skinning process, and I covered all needed points. I feel that I could improve this task by completing my skinning to a higher standard, which will improve the fluidity for my overall animation.

For the sixth task, I had to create a animation storyboard with possible animations for my puppet. I created this in word due to the simple nature of the software and the storyboard. While simplistic, it shows the animations that could be done for my puppet. I accompanied this storyboard with a small write up, that explains my storyboard and why I chose those specific animations to present and the software used to create the storyboard. I feel that I could of improved this by adding more complex annotations that would have explained my creative process and intentions in more detail.

For the seventh task, I went through the legal and ethical implications of animation. I talked about how certain groups of people could be offended by animation should it be thematically offensive and how that could affect the ethics of animation. For the legal aspect, I explained how 3D animations need to avoid trademarks, in order to avoid legal action should they be caught copying a copyrighted design. I feel both examples were relevant to the task and explained the Legal and Ethical implications of animation to an acceptable level.

For the eighth task, I went through the animation process. I showed the actions I took to fully animate my 3D puppet and explained how and why I took them. I provided screenshots of the timelines for each separate animation which were accompanied by a annotation saying which animation it shows. I covered the entire animation process which I felt adds to the overall quality of the task. I feel I could of improved this task by adding in more keyframes, which would flesh out my animation and showcase more of my 3D animation knowledge.

For the ninth and final task, I presented individual videos of my 4 animations and a prototype animation compilation which was completed before the start of my main four animations. I accompanied my five videos with a paragraph explaining what they are and what I think of them. If I were to improve this task, I would add more detail into my paragraphs.

  1. I’ve been browsing online more than 2 hours today, yet I neverfound any interesting article like yours. It’s pretty worth enough forme. In my opinion, if all web owners and bloggers made goodcontent as you did, the internet will be a lot moreuseful than ever before.
